How can I schedule delivery to Channels?
by Aaron DelloIacono Thies
A Channel would be defined as a group of pages on a site (or a group of sites) which have content that falls into a special categories such as Sports, Finance, Weather, etc, (it is entirely up to the user what categories are needed.).
Channels can be defined in one of three ways with AHS:
1) using Section heirarchy.
When you schedule a campaign to deliver to a particular section (this is done by selecting to Include delivery in the 'Add/Remove Section Assignments' portion of the campaign & creative set up),
BY DEFAULT IT WILL ALSO DELIVER TO ALL OF THAT SECTION'S SUB-SECTIONS UNLESS YOU EXPLICITLY EXCLUDE DELIVERY TO A SPECIFIC SUB-SECTION.
Therefore, you can make your sections in a directory hierarchy using Sections which define the channel and then by making Sub-Sections for all the sites or pages that fall within that channel.
So if I set up a group of sections, each representing a channel, I could create sub-sections of that channel, each representing a site or a page within that channel.
One could also make a category heirarchy as subsections of a section representing a single site.
So if I set up a group of sections, each representing a site, I could create sub-sections of that site, each representing a channel.
2) as groups of Sections.
With AHS, you can schedule to groups of Sections by picking and choosing which Sections you want your campaign to deliver to under the 'Add/Remove Section Assignments' portion of the campaign & creative set up.
However, with AHS you cannot create pre-defined channels and simply pick the pre-defined channel when trafficking the campaign. (possible future feature)
3) As keywords.
If the flexibility of scheduling campaigns and creatives by manually selected groups of channels is not enough, you can target by keyword.
To do this, first define the categories which define each channel. Set up your web pages to write the keyword into the ad tag using the 'k' variable.
For example:
...oasisi.php?s=339&w=468&h=60&k=YourChannel
Next, under the 'Delivery Controls' page of the campaign or creative, create a targeting statement like 'Deliver when Keyword matches the string YourChannel'.
The problem with scheduling to channels by using keywords is that, because AHS does not have keyword reporting, you would not be able to see reports and forecasting by channel.
