Can I mix ad sizes in the same ad space?

by Aaron DelloIacono Thies

The answer is yes.
There are 2 parts to this answer. Part 1 gives you some background on sections and part 2 specifically answers your question.

1) Sections do not inherently have a size associated with them. They are only associated with a size when you make your ad tags and place them on a page. So this means that on the same page (or different pages) you could have two different tags of different sizes (let's say a 300x250 and a 728x90) which both belong to the same section. These tags would have the same sectionID and would only differ with the height/width parameters. An impression for the 300x250 would be logged to the same section as an impression for the 728x90. (They would be differentiated in the By Size portion of the reporting.)

2) You can also force the system to mix ad sizes in the same ad tag. For example, if you have an ad tag for a 160x600 position you can "trick" the ad server into serving a 120x600 into that ad space. First, you need to be using the Javascript ad tag type, which I see that you are.
Next, when you make your creative for the 120x600 ad you will manually edit the width parameter of the creative to set it to 160. In this way, the size will match the sizes in the tag and the creative will deliver.
--If the creative is 3rd party code or other rich media you simply edit the creative width/height and you are done.
--If the ad you want to serve is an image (GIF, JPEP, etc) then you have to take an additional step. For images, if you simply edit the width/height then the system will "stretch" the image to fit and make it look distorted. In this case you would instead make it as rich media and choose the template "Image with Link". You then upload your ad image, enter in the width/height (160x600) to match the tag dimensions, Update the rich media and save it. The image will appear as normal when delivered and you can get the system to serve a 120x600 into a 160x600.

Note that if you are forcing a 120x600 to appear in a 160x600 space, then it is good practice to put the REAL size of the ad in the creative name so that you have this for reference in reporting.
